"When Materials Become More Expensive and Imports Less Reliable – Circular Economy Solutions Suddenly Make Sense."
As construction input costs continue to soar, concerns mount over the rising prices of housing across Israel. The Construction Input Index has been climbing steadily, sending a clear signal: the time to rethink our resource model is now.
In a recent article published by journalist Ori Hudi, he explores the causes behind the crisis — and the opportunities that lie ahead. The voices from within the industry are clear and urgent:
🔹 Raul Srugo, President of the Israeli Contractors Association:"We need to be pioneers, to look forward and figure out how to move ahead. Around 90% of construction waste — including wet waste — ends up in landfills. That’s a shocking figure. We are polluting our own land and air."
🔹 Gilad Golub, CEO of the Standards Institute of Israel:"In practice, we’re in a bad place when it comes to handling construction waste. There is more construction waste in Israel than household waste — but how often do you hear about it? The gap in public awareness is staggering. And yet, it’s actually easier to recycle construction waste. We’re on track to become the most densely populated country in the OECD — and still, this issue isn’t high on the agenda. That amazes me. It’s time to push this forward."
🔹 Zvika David, Vice President and Head of Infrastructure at the Contractors Association:" What are we asking from the state? Don’t just talk about 2050 when we haven’t solved 2021 yet. We need immediate solutions while also planning ahead. In the meantime, the state is losing hundreds of millions — if not billions — of shekels by failing to advance this issue. We need a mindset revolution and supportive, efficient regulation. Give us the foundation — we’ll handle the rest."
